Punjab's Stricter Anti-Sacrilege Law Moves Forward

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that the state has sent the anti-sacrilege Bill to the Governor for approval. The Bill, unanimously passed by the Punjab Assembly, seeks to impose stricter penalties for sacrilege, including life imprisonment. It aims to deter disrespect against the Guru Granth Sahib.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has stated that the anti-sacrilege Bill has been dispatched to Governor Gulab Chand Kataria for his assent.

The Bill, aimed at clamping down on acts of sacrilege against the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, was passed unanimously by the Punjab Assembly and proposes life imprisonment and a hefty fine as penalties.

Chief Minister Mann emphasized the Bill's role as a deterrent and noted it does not require presidential approval, needing only the Governor's sign-off.
