Hill Villagers Halt Poll Process Over Long-Neglected Infrastructure Woes

Primarily involving tribal communities in Agamalai Panchayat, the protest highlighted the profound lack of basic amenities, triggering threats to boycott upcoming elections.

The village, home to hamlets such as Kakarai and Oothukadu, struggles with unfulfilled promises, including a stalled Rs 1.80 crore road project reportedly blocked by forest regulations. This lack of connectivity has had dire consequences, like the tragic deaths of pregnant women due to inaccessible healthcare.

Despite assurances from officials about addressing their demands with the district collector, villagers insisted on blocking election processes until there are firm commitments to improve their living conditions.
