Gautam Khattar, a right-wing speaker arrested for objectionable statements about St Francis Xavier, was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital on Thursday due to reported chest pain, according to police. Khattar's legal situation remains tense, with a local court reserving its decision on his bail application.
His lawyer, Advocate Amey Prabhudesai, explained that the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, would make a decision on the bail plea on Saturday morning, coinciding with the end of Khattar's remand period. Prabhudesai argued that video evidence makes further custodial interrogation unnecessary.
Previously admitted to a district hospital in Mapusa for hypertension, Khattar was arrested by Goa Police in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, for making inflammatory remarks against the revered Jesuit missionary St Francis Xavier. His brother, Madhav Khattar, was arrested earlier but has since been released on bail.
