In a landmark judgment, the Fast Track Court in Puducherry has convicted Kakka alias Karunas for the heinous rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in 2024. This high-profile case has seen Karunas held guilty of multiple serious crimes, including kidnapping, murder, and offenses under the POCSO Act. The sentencing has been scheduled for May 5.

The chilling crime, which occurred in March 2024, shocked the region when the young girl's body was discovered in a drainage canal. Karunas, identified by local residents as the last person seen with the child, was apprehended and his subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of his accomplice, Vivekanandan, who later died by suicide.

The charges against Karunas were severe, involving violations of Sections 376AB, 302, 367, 368, 342, 201, and 34, along with infractions under the POCSO Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, indicating the grave nature of the crime.
