Election Commission Under Fire: Allegations of Partiality and Calls for Reform

In a scathing allegation, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused the Election Commission of being 'more compromised' under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Ramesh claims Kumar has assumed an active role instead of a neutral one in the recently concluded state assembly elections.

The Congress party continues its campaign to remove Kumar from his position, arguing that the integrity of voting rights is at stake. Ramesh emphasized the need to elevate the right to vote from a constitutional right to a fundamental one, citing widespread electoral roll revisions that disenfranchised many citizens.

This marks the second opposition motion in the Rajya Sabha to remove Kumar after an earlier attempt was rejected. Amidst these accusations, Ramesh remains adamant about pursuing Kumar's removal while questioning Home Minister Amit Shah's influence in the election process. He remains skeptical of exit polls, labeling them as a 'racket' with diminished credibility.
