The Allahabad High Court, in a significant move, dismissed a petition on Friday that had sought the registration of an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a potentially seditious remark made in 2025. The decision was passed by Justice Vikram D Chauhan.
The petition, filed by Simran Gupta, sought to overturn a Sambhal court's earlier refusal to lodge an FIR against Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Gupta's legal claim was hinged on Gandhi's speech during the inauguration of the All India Congress Committee office, where he allegedly declared opposition to the BJP, RSS, and the Indian State.
The petitioner argued that Gandhi's statement was not only anti-national but also intended to destabilize the country by hurting public sentiments. However, the High Court confirmed the previous ruling, leaving the call for an FIR unendorsed, marking a setback for Gupta's legal efforts.
