The Bar Council of India (BCI) has urgently sought intervention from Chief Justice of India Surya Kant following a "deeply disturbing" incident involving a judge from the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The judge reportedly sent a young advocate to 24-hour judicial custody over a procedural lapse.

BCI Chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra formally requested the Chief Justice to review the conduct of Justice Tarlada Rajasekhar Rao, describing it as "grossly inappropriate" and damaging to the Bar's confidence. He urged the Chief Justice to acquire video recordings of the proceedings and contemplate administrative actions, including transferring the judge or providing judicial training.

The controversy centers around proceedings from May 5th, where Justice Rao allegedly mocked the young lawyer's experience and disregarded his pleas for mercy, ultimately ordering his custody. The BCI argues such actions intimidate junior legal professionals and harm the essential respect between the Bar and Bench.
