UAE Launches Defence Industrial Free Zone to Boost Localization

The United Arab Emirates is embarking on a significant development with the creation of a defence industrial Free Zone in Al Selmiyyah, Abu Dhabi. This initiative, as announced by Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement and AD Ports Group, seeks to attract leading global equipment manufacturers. The aim is to bolster the localization of defence manufacturing and strengthen the country's long-term defence strategies.
Tawazun Council, which serves as the authority for defence and security acquisitions for the UAE armed forces and Abu Dhabi police, will spearhead the regulatory frameworks for the project. This includes granting necessary licenses and ensuring industrial compliance, ensuring the project aligns with national security goals.
Meanwhile, AD Ports Group, a key player in ports and logistics, will lead the master planning, land use design, and infrastructure development. As strategic partners, they will support the UAE's overarching goal of enhancing defence capacities amidst regional tensions, notably following the Iran conflict.
