In a tragic incident, retired Brigadier Mukesh Joshi, aged 74, was caught in a deadly crossfire on Mussoorie Road, Dehradun, while on a morning walk. The altercation, originating from an earlier nightclub dispute, resulted in his untimely death, prompting his family to seek substantial compensation.
Renu Joshi, the widow of Brigadier Joshi, has formally requested Rs 1 crore in compensation from the Uttarakhand government, emphasizing his 36-year service in the Indian Army and his prestigious honors, including the Sena Medal. She argues that the state should be held accountable for the failure to protect its citizens.
Despite assurances from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other officials, the family claims no action has been taken, exacerbating their grief. Renu Joshi has pushed for expedited compensation under legal precedent and state schemes, calling attention to delays in justice and support.
