Chief Justice of India Surya Kant criticized artificial intelligence, stating that it demonstrates bias against disadvantaged populations. He underscored the importance of social justice during his address at the Dinkar Memorial Lecture, highlighting how AI's bias contradicts the ideals of equality, as encapsulated in poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar's work.
Speaking on the continued relevance of Dinkar's teachings, Justice Kant argued that the poet's writings on human dignity and equality were pioneering, predating the constitutional embedding of these principles. Stressing the role of law in providing comfort to people, the CJI noted society's persistence of inequalities, even decades after these concepts were formalized.
The event, organized by NGO Respect India, brought together legal and literary communities. Attendees, including Supreme Court Bar Association president Vikas Singh and Lok Sabha MP Manoj Tiwari, echoed calls for merging cultural thought with legal discourse. The gathering highlighted the enduring influence of writers on societal values and justice.
