Thirteen children from the Baiga tribe, identified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group, have been freed from bonded labour in Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district. The police announced on Thursday that they have apprehended eight individuals, including two suspected traffickers and six employers, during Wednesday's rescue operation.
These accused allegedly enticed the parents of these minors by offering money, subsequently forcing the children into labour across various villages. According to Kabirdham Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh Chhavai, once they received the information, the operation was swiftly executed, rescuing children aged 8 to 15.
The children were exploited under grueling conditions, working long hours without pay, while their parents received meager sums. The incident underlines the susceptibility of marginalized communities to trafficking networks preying on their poverty, prompting urgent governmental and societal intervention.
