Two arrested for gang-rape of six-year-old girl

Police here have arrested two persons for the alleged gang rape of a six-year-old girl in a village under the Walterganj police station area, officials said on Friday. The accused were arrested within 12 hours of the crime, which took place late Thursday night. According to police sources, the incident occurred around 11 pm when the child had gone out of her house. The two accused allegedly lured her with chocolates and took her to a nearby thatched hut, where they allegedly raped her. Police sources further said the accused took advantage of the loud music playing at a nearby wedding function at that time. The matter came to light when the girl returned home in a distressed state and narrated her ordeal to her family. She was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment. Circle officer Sadar Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari said a forensic team reached the spot immediately after the report. ''The girl was taken for medical treatment, and her condition is reported to be stable. She has been discharged after treatment,'' he said, adding that the accused, identified as Deepak Sharma (27) and Vishal alias Saurabh (19), have been arrested and sent to jail. Police have registered a case under sections of the BNS and POCSO Act. Further investigations are underway.
