Big Promise Awaits Bengaluru Amid Poll Preparations

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced a 'big guarantee' for Bengaluru to be revealed on May 13, coinciding with upcoming elections for five city corporations. The announcement is linked to discussions around logistical challenges in holding these elections, currently under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court due to ongoing SIR and census activities.

The elections, scheduled between June 14-24, face logistical challenges as many officials are occupied with the central government's SIR and census, impacting readiness. This issue will also be presented to the Supreme Court, hoping for a feasible solution.

Congress leaders, including Shivakumar and CM Siddaramaiah, met with AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala to strategize for the elections. They seek to comply with the Supreme Court's mandate while addressing manpower issues. The situation is further complicated by the previous body’s term ending in 2020, leaving an administrator in charge since then.
