The Uttarakhand High Court has mandated the Haridwar senior superintendent of police to ensure the appearance of a woman in court on May 18. This decision comes in response to a habeas corpus petition by her husband, Vaibhav Gupta, who alleges that her parents are forcibly holding her against her will.
Gupta asserts that his wife was living with him in Haridwar until her family allegedly took her to Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. While state counsel presented a video confirmation of her safety, the petitioner’s counsel argued she might be under duress or coercion from her family, necessitating her personal court appearance.
The court has tasked the SSP with coordinating efforts with Ambedkar Nagar authorities to facilitate her presence, ensuring she can make a testimony free from external pressure. The proceedings are scheduled to continue on May 18.
