Policeman Arrested for Blackmail and Assault in Jharkhand

A 40-year-old policeman in Jharkhand's Gumla district was arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a girl in 2017. The accused, who maintained contact with the victim after her marriage in 2022, was charged under the POCSO Act and IT Act for his alleged crimes.

A police officer in Jharkhand's Gumla district has been detained over allegations of rape and subsequent blackmailing of a minor, officials reported on Wednesday. The incident, occurring in 2017 when the victim was 16, surfaced after she lodged a report at the Gumla women's police station.

The officer, an assistant sub-inspector, allegedly maintained contact with the victim following her wedding in 2022, using compromising videos to blackmail and threaten her. The victim's contact with the officer began when he was posted at the Chainpur police station and had developed a professional relationship with her family.

According to Ankita Kumar, officer-in-charge of the women's police station, a case has been registered under multiple sections of the POCSO Act and IT Act, targeting the officer for his actions during his tenure at the Chainpur station and current posting at the police lines.
