Miami residents and a nonprofit group are challenging the state of Florida over its decision to donate land for the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library. The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, claims this transaction offers unconstitutional benefits to the former president and is an illegal ‘emolument’ under the U.S. Constitution.

The contentious donation involves a 2.63-acre waterfront property, previously a parking lot for Miami Dade College, valued at over $300 million. There are allegations that the land could be used by Trump for lucrative commercial projects, possibly a hotel, raising questions about the legality and ethics of the gift.

The complaint targets Trump, the library foundation, Florida officials including Governor Ron DeSantis, and Miami Dade College. As of now, both the Trump Presidential Library Foundation and the governor's office have yet to comment. The plaintiffs demand the court to declare the transfer unconstitutional and revoke the transaction.
