Hundreds of landless squatters staged a vehement protest against Nepal's governmental eviction drive, which has affected areas including the capital, Kathmandu. The demonstrators, under the National Landless Squatters Front, demanded compensation for the destruction of their settlements by authorities using armed security forces.
Placards proclaimed messages like 'No Balen government, no bulldozer,' emphasizing their demand for justice and cessation of what they termed 'bulldozer terror.' The Federation of Non-governmental Organisations Nepal criticized the state's treatment of squatters, highlighting violations of basic human rights and constitutional guarantees.
Addressing a committee meeting, State Management Committee Chairman Hari Dhakal revealed government intentions to offer a monthly house rent allowance to affected families. The opposition has taken a strong stance, urging an immediate halt to the evictions and demanding essential support for displaced families.
