Authorities in Chennai have detained ten foreign nationals, including four women, on allegations of illegally participating in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. These individuals were apprehended at the Chennai international airport as they attempted to leave the country, following the April 23 elections.
According to police sources, the detainees managed to cast illegal votes by obtaining fraudulent identity documents, despite holding foreign citizenship. Their movements across various parts of the state were monitored, leading to the discovery of their alleged unlawful voting activities.
In response to a formal complaint lodged by immigration authorities, multiple cases have been filed. The arrested individuals from Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, and Canada are currently facing legal proceedings, having been presented before a court.
