A dramatic rescue operation is underway in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district after four-year-old Gurkaran Singh fell into a borewell near his home. The incident occurred in Chak Samana village on Friday evening, sparking immediate action from local rescue teams.
The borewell, reportedly 250 feet deep, posed serious challenges. Officials estimate Gurkaran is trapped at a depth of around 20 to 25 feet. The borewell, belonging to the boy's family, was recently operational, but inadequate safeguards led to the mishap, according to Punjab minister Ravjot Singh.
Several agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force, local police, and volunteer groups, are collaborating in the rescue efforts. Teams have provided the child with oxygen and attempted visual monitoring through a camera. Despite complications from loose soil, operations continue, with the boy's family and the community anxiously awaiting a successful outcome.
