Iranian Nobel Peace Prize recipient Narges Mohammadi has been discharged from a cardiac care unit and returned home, weeks after being moved from prison to the hospital following a suspected heart attack, according to a family-run foundation. Mohammadi, 54, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 while incarcerated for her advocacy efforts aimed at promoting women's rights and opposing the death penalty in Iran.

She faces a new prison term, as revealed by the foundation in February, coinciding with heightened tensions involving the U.S. and Israel against Iran. After her suspected heart attack in March, she was initially hospitalized in Zanjan and later transferred to Tehran's Pars Hospital following a temporary release on heavy bail, the foundation stated.

"Her recovery demands strict medical supervision outside prison walls. Returning her to detention is a death sentence," her daughter, Kiana Rahmani, emphasized. Despite international attention on her detentions and recent appeals from the Nobel committee calling for her release, there has been no immediate response from Iran's foreign ministry or mention of her case on state media.
