Delhi: Fire at New Ashok Nagar police station doused; no one hurt

A fire broke out in the parking area of the New Ashok Nagar police station in east Delhi on Tuesday, prompting authorities to rush eight fire tenders to the scene.

A fire broke out in a parking area of the New Ashok Nagar police station in east Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, prompting authorities to rush eight fire tenders to the spot, officials said.

No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call regarding the blaze was received at 1.06 pm, following which eight fire tenders were pressed into service.

Police said the fire was noticed around 1 pm in the lawn-cum-parking area attached to the malkhana (storeroom) of the police station, where case property vehicles were parked.

Immediately after the incident, police personnel deployed at the station used available firefighting resources, including fire extinguishers and water from the overhead tank installed within the premises, while simultaneously informing the fire department, the officials said.

Firefighters later reached the spot and launched firefighting operations. The blaze was completely extinguished by around 2.20 pm, the police said.

''As per preliminary inquiry, the fire appears to have originated from case property vehicles parked in the malkhana parking area,'' a senior police officer said.

Further inquiry is underway, the officials said.
