A woman, who had been missing for the past six days, was found raped and murdered in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place within Rikhiya police station jurisdiction on May 16.
Police have arrested three persons in this connection, including a 29-year-old woman, a senior officer said.
''We arrested three persons, including a woman accomplice of the duo, for raping and strangling the 21-year-old victim to death. The victim's parents filed a missing person's report on May 17, while the victim's body was recovered on May 19, buried under sand near Radhiya River,'' Deoghar SDPO Kuldeep Kumar told PTI.
Based on forensic, technical and intelligence leads, police arrested the three accused.
During interrogation, the 27-year-old main accused and his girlfriend said the victim knew about their relationship and had narrated it in front of multiple people.
Thereafter, they, along with a 19-year-old accomplice, allegedly plotted to kill her, Kumar said.
According to the plan, the accused's girlfriend took the victim to a secluded place near the river, where the duo arrived and raped and strangled her to death, police said.
After the crime, the accused threw the body into a nearby pit. On the night of May 18, they covered it with sand to conceal it, the SDPO said.
The three confessed to the crime and were forwarded to judicial custody after registering an FIR in this regard, police said.
