WR carries out demolition drive in Goregaon-Malad stretch, clears 1500 sq mt encroached land

Western Railway conducted a demolition drive, clearing 1500 square metres of encroached land and removing 60 structures along the tracks between Goregaon and Malad.

Western Railway on Monday carried a demolition drive along the tracks between Goregaon and Malad, clearing 1500 square metres of encroached land, an official said.

A total of 36 permanent encroachments and 24 temporary structures were removed, he added.

The action was conducted between kilometre markers 28/3 and 28/6 on the eastern side in accordance with directions of the Bombay High Court, WR Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said.

Abhishek said 168 personnel from the city police, 25 Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawans and 65 from railway police were deployed at the site during the drive.

Around 80 railway staffers, along with three JCB machines and three dumpers, were also deployed for the demolition exercise, he added.

The demolition drive comes close to the five-day initiative at Garib Nagar near Bandra station last week that saw removal of at least 500 unauthorised structures.
