West Bank Sheep Theft During Eid Al-Adha: A Community's Livelihood Stolen

Palestinian shepherd Sameeha Rasheed planned to sacrifice sheep for Eid al-Adha, but settlers stole them in a raid. In a disheartening turn of events for Palestinian shepherd Sameeha Rasheed, the sacred ritual of sacrificing sheep for Eid al-Adha was thwarted when Jewish settlers allegedly stole her flock in a pre-dawn raid. The incident, taking place in Masafer Yatta near Hebron, has not only disrupted her family's celebration but also deprived them of essential income.

According to Rasheed, around 45 sheep were taken, alongside the family's guard dogs, leaving the household vulnerable to the stealthy theft. This act has severely impacted their livelihood, as her husband battles cancer and the family relies on the sheep for income and sustenance during Eid al-Adha, a festival marked by the slaughtering of animals in a tradition dating back to the story of Ibrahim's devotion.

The theft coincides with a surge in settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, documented through CCTV footage. Criticism from Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid labeled the acts as "Jewish terror," highlighting the growing tensions. Despite Israeli military intervention, the settler incidents continue as part of broader territorial conflicts, further complicating Rasheed's plight and the region's struggles.
