Cabinet Approves Sarthak-PDS with Rs 25,530 Crore for State Assistance

The Union Cabinet has sanctioned a Rs 25,530 crore extension of the Sarthak-PDS scheme to enhance intra-state grain movement and modernize the public distribution system. The scheme will operate under the 16th Finance Commission cycle from April 2026 to March 2031, offering central financial support.

In a significant move, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned the extension of the 'Sarthak-PDS' scheme, allocating a budget of Rs 25,530 crore. This initiative aims to aid state agencies in the intra-state transportation of food grains and enhance the public distribution system's efficiency.

Chaired by Narendra Modi, the Cabinet approved this umbrella scheme, which will be part of the financial strategy during the 16th Finance Commission cycle. The scheme is set to be rolled out from April 2026 to March 2031. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the scheme's role in automation and income support in the PDS, highlighting its importance in strengthening food security.
