Authorities in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar seized 131 cattle as a preventive measure ahead of the Bakri Eid holiday, arresting eight individuals in the process, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

The operation took place in the Jinsi area following reports of cattle being kept there. Subsequently, the animals were moved to the Jinsi police station for veterinary examination before being transferred to a cow shelter with municipal support.

Local police had previously engaged with peace committees to dissuade the illegal sacrifice of prohibited animals. Pravin Pawar, the police commissioner, announced the deployment of 250 officers for a combing operation that led to the seizure.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against those apprehended, with further investigations ongoing to identify their associates. The commissioner indicated potential action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, reflecting the seriousness of the offense and the ongoing scrutiny of the suspects' criminal backgrounds.
