The engineers, Prabhat Singh and Sanjay Kumar Jha, were buried under debris when the ground collapsed unexpectedly. Despite a quick rescue operation, Singh was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while Jha succumbed to his injuries soon after. Families of the deceased accused the railway authorities of negligence, citing a lack of manpower at the construction site during the holiday.
Official claims of compliant safety measures met with skepticism as relatives demanded accountability. An inquiry is underway to ascertain events leading up to the collapse. Compensation will be granted as per the relevant rules. The underpass, slated to address traffic congestion, underscores the dire need for construction safety.
