Court Overturns Abdullah Azam Khan's Jail Term in Dual Passport Case

A court has revoked Abdullah Azam Khan's seven-year prison sentence given for holding two passports. The sentence was previously imposed by a magistrate, but his appeal succeeded, dismissing the charges.

Abdullah Azam Khan, former Uttar Pradesh MLA and son of prominent Samajwadi Party figure Mohammad Azam Khan, has had his seven-year prison sentence annulled by a local court. This decision comes as a significant relief after the initial ruling in a dual passport case.

The MP-MLA Sessions Court's decision follows nearly six months after a magistrate court sentenced Khan and imposed a Rs 50,000 fine. The case originated in 2019 from a complaint by BJP’s Akash Saxena, accusing Khan of using two passports with differing birth dates. Special Judge Vijay Kumar accepted Khan's appeal, overturning the lower court's decision, even as Khan remains in Rampur jail from another case involving similar charges.
