The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully rescued more than 50 pilgrims stranded due to rising waters at the confluence of the Ladhiya and Ratiya rivers near the Sri Reetha Sahib Gurdwara in Champawat. This incident happened amid the annual Jod Mela celebrations.

Officials cited the preemptive deployment of the SDRF team as pivotal, considering the influx of pilgrims and adverse weather forecasts. Sudden rainfall had resulted in increased water levels, ensnaring the pilgrims and several vehicles. Despite these challenges, a quick response from the SDRF ensured the safe evacuation of all individuals, averting potential tragedy.

Following the rescue, local authorities, with traffic police assistance, implemented measures to control the flow of pilgrims and prevent further incidents. SDRF command has issued directives for heightened vigilance due to ongoing rains in the region to ensure immediate action can be taken in future emergencies.
