The administration of Ladakh has initiated a new excise policy, enabling extensive retail distribution of hard liquor and introducing streamlined licensing procedures. The number of necessary documents for obtaining an excise license has been reduced, reflecting a move towards reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

This new framework extends liquor sales to more districts and authorizes the sale in guest houses and homestays, a significant departure from previous regulations. It also allows micro-breweries and beer bars for the first time, while hotels can now serve alcohol throughout their premises.

Seeking to enhance efficiency and combat illegal alcohol trade, the policy dictates a uniform excise duty, and introduces security measures such as mandatory holograms for liquor traceability. Environmental and social safeguards are integrated to align sales with broader ethical standards.

In addition to expanding availability to districts beyond Leh, Ladakh's leaders have set forth measures intended to invigorate tourism and ensure public welfare. Promoting responsible consumption through transparent operations remains a key focus.
