The Eurodac database, central to the European Union's new migration and asylum pact, faced technical disruptions coinciding with the policy's launch, authorities confirmed. The malfunction came during a system update, impacting several EU member states, as they struggled to adapt to the pact's requirements.

EU spokesperson Marcus Lammert addressed concerns at a press briefing, suggesting such issues are typical with new systems. "The information I'm getting is that member states are gradually linking in, and it's going rather well," he reassured.

Reports indicate many member states are unprepared for the pact, lacking sufficient infrastructure for new screening procedures. Under the pact, Eurodac collects biometric and identity data to assess migrants, channeling them into proper procedures, including expedited processes for individuals from safe countries.
