Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for stronger international cooperation based on trust, transparency and equal partnership while addressing the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit in Evian, France. Speaking on the theme "Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity," he stressed that global challenges can only be addressed through collective action and shared responsibility.
The Prime Minister noted that the modern world is deeply interconnected, where issues such as energy security, food security, healthcare, technology and economic stability are closely linked. In such an environment, he said, international partnerships are no longer optional but essential for global progress and prosperity.
Trust and Transparency Must Guide Global Cooperation
Highlighting growing uncertainties in the international landscape, Modi observed that trade and technology are increasingly being used to serve narrow interests, creating a deficit of trust among nations. He said the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the importance of openness, cooperation and reliable global partnerships.
According to the Prime Minister, rebuilding confidence between countries requires a commitment to transparency and mutual respect. He urged nations to work together in a spirit of collaboration rather than competition, especially when tackling global challenges that affect people across borders.
He also pointed out that strong international partnerships can only flourish when countries adhere to agreed principles and demonstrate respect for international law.
India's Development Model Rooted in Humanity
During his address, Modi outlined India's approach to international cooperation, describing it as guided by the principle of "humanity first." He said this philosophy remains central to India's engagement with the world and is reflected in several global initiatives championed by the country.
He highlighted programmes such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, the Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFE and the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign as examples of India's commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
The Prime Minister also noted India's role as a first responder during natural disasters in different parts of the world. He referred to assistance provided during emergencies in countries including Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Mozambique and Jamaica as evidence of India's willingness to support the global community during times of need.
From Donor-Recipient Model to Shared Ownership
Modi argued that international partnerships should move beyond traditional donor-recipient relationships and instead be based on solidarity, equality and shared ownership. He said such an approach would create stronger and more durable partnerships capable of addressing common challenges.
He also highlighted India's domestic development achievements, attributing them to the guiding principle of "Sarv Jan Hitaye, Sarv Jan Sukhaye" — welfare and happiness for all. He pointed to progress in financial inclusion, healthcare access, digital identity systems, technology-driven empowerment and women-led development as examples of inclusive growth.
