The Congress in Maharashtra has
decided to propose names of three poll ticket aspirants each
from four of the six Lok Sabha constituencies in Mumbai to the
central leadership, while it has finalised the candidate for
one seat, sources said on Monday.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of
state party leaders here.
Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan was among
the leaders who attended the meeting.
According to the sources, former Union Minister Milind
Deora would be the party candidate from the Mumbai South
constituency for the upcoming elections.
Deora has represented the constituency in the past.
The Mumbai North-East seat is likely to go to the NCP
as part of a seat-sharing arrangement between the two alliance
partners.
Mumbai North, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai North-West
and Mumbai South-Central are the remaining four parliamentary
seats in the metropolis.
"It has been decided that names of three ticket
aspirants from each of these four seats would be sent to the
central leadership to take the final call," the sources said.
The sources said the Congress and the NCP may take
another week to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement between
them.
The two parties had drawn a blank in Mumbai in the
2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP and the Shiv Sena had won three Lok Sabha
seats each then.
