Health Minister blames previous government for death of monkeys in Karnataka

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], Feb 7 (ANI): Karnataka Health Minister Shivanand Patil on Thursday held the previous Congress government responsible for the spread of Kyasanur Forest disease (KFD), killing monkeys in the state.

"Due to the election in 2018, the state government forgot to carry out the immunisation drive," he said, but added that the situation was under control.

"Every year the government does immunization but last year they forgot because of the election. When a local MLA raised this issue, we have started doing the needful. Now, there are enough medicines and the situation is under control."

He also said that a committee has also been appointed by the government to review the situation in the state and its recommendations will be evaluated and accepted accordingly.

Kyasanur Forest disease was first reported from Kyasanur Forest of Karnataka in March 1957. The disease is spread by ticks on a monkey's body. Animals like monkeys, forest rats, bats, and rodents spread the KFD virus. (ANI)
