EC seizes Rs 3 cr in raids to different locations in Tamil Nadu

Unaccounted cash of Rs 3.07 crore have been seized during the last two days in Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission said Wednesday. State Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said 702 flying squads have been set up to monitor the poll expenditure of political parties for the coming elections in the State.
With the model code of conduct coming into effect Sunday following the announcement of the election schedule, EC teams in Tirupur, Nilgiris, Perambalur, Salem, Tiruvarur, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Tiruchirapalli, Cuddalore, Namakkal, and Erode seized the unaccounted money on March 11 and 12. Elections to 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and one Puducherry seat will be held on April 18 during the second of the seven-phase polling exercise across the country. Bypolls to 18 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu will also be held simultaneously.
