16 swords, one pistol and live round seized in Malegaon

Police seized 16 swords, a country-made pistol and one live bullet from two localities in Malegaon town in the district early Wednesday, police said. Four persons were arrested following the seizure, police said.

The weapons were recovered during the searches carried out in Hakim Nagar and Mominpura localities by Malegaon crime branch sleuths, an official of Azad Nagar police station said. The accused were identified as Mohammed Yasin Mohammed Shakil (19), Kasim Ansari (20), Samir Ahmed Bashir Ahmed (22) and Imran Khan alias Shetty (26), he added.

"The searches are being conducted as part of a crackdown on illegal activities in view of the Lok Sabha elections next month. The action was taken based on the directives given by DSP (Rural) Aarti Sinh," the official said According to police, 15 swords had been seized during the searches in Malegaon last week..
