Kerala cabinet mourns K M Mani's death

The Kerala cabinet Wednesday condoled the death of K M Mani who was a member of the State Assembly for 54 years. For Kerala in general and the State assembly in particular, the death of Mani, who had served as Finance and Law minister in various ministries, was an irreparable loss, the cabinet said in a resolution.

In the assembly and outside, the late leader, who always stood firmly for the state's interests and raised the issues being faced by the people of high range areas and farmers, was loved by one and all. The resolution said Mani is among the few leaders who have a place in the parliamentary history of the world.

"No one in the history of Kerala Legislative Assembly can claim the record of being the member of the law making body for 54 years," the resolution, a copy of which was released to the media, said. Since 1965, he was elected from the Pala constituency in all assembly elections even as he changed Fronts and it shows his strong followers' base, the resolution added.

Mani, 86, died at a private hospital in Kochi on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment for pulmonary disease..
