Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba on Tuesday inaugurated the fifth full-fledged Service Selection Board (SSB) of the Indian Navy here, a defence official said. The selection board at this riverside town on the banks of the Hooghly situated 50 km from Kolkata, is capable of screening over 200 candidates at a time, and is expected to assess 10,000 to 12,000 candidates in a year.

The board boasts of most advanced facilities - latest psychological testing software, most advanced accommodation, fibre optics-enabled LAN connectivity and a selection management system -- for assessing candidates aspiring to become officers in the Indian Navy, the official said. Inaugurating the SSB, the chief of the Naval Staff appreciated the efforts of all agencies, including INS Netaji Subhas and the Bengal area naval headquarters, for setting up the board in an appreciable time frame.
