The remodelling of Elango Corporation Government Higher Secondary School built in 1937, which makes it one of the oldest schools in Madurai, is almost complete. The remodelling of the school was carried out using the funds donated by HCL founder Shiv Nadar who is an alumnus of the school.
Nadar studied for two years in the seventh and eighth standard at the school. Rajendran, the school headmaster spoke about the history of Nadar with the school and also talked about the donations made by him to the school on his visit.
"Nadar studied in class seventh and eighth here in this school, when he came to visit us he saw the buildings were in a dilapidated condition. He made a donation of rupees 15 crores to the school, we utilised this money to give it a makeover so that the children can get better facilities," Rajendran told ANI. He also thanked Nadar for his contribution to his former school.
The school is located near Madurai Government Hospital and most of the students in the school come from the lower class of the society.
