Govt making efforts to protect indigenous cattle breeds: Anandiben Patel

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel here on Wednesday said the state government was making efforts to protect indigenous cattle breeds. She, while delivering the presidential address during the ninth convocation of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Veterinary University in Mathura, said, "In the past five decades, only foreign breeds were promoted without realising its adverse impact."

She said it resulted in a situation where the indigenous breeds were facing a serious threat of extinction. The governor said the well-being of the Indian breeds was important to increase the milk production, which would improve farmers' income.

She said the government had sanctioned a Rs 32-crore project in this regard for the university. She also praised the university for the adoption of five "gaushalas" and stressed the need for scientific ways for the upkeep of cattle.

Patel also urged the audience to contribute to the campaign for the elimination of plastic.
