Odisha reconstitutes panel on High Court bench demands

With lawyers in Western and Southern regions of the state intensifying agitations demanding establishment of permanent High Court benches in their areas, Odisha government has reconstituted the Committee to look into the issue, an official said on Thursday. The Home department reconstituted the committee through a notification in this regard on Thursday, the official said.
While Development Commissioner will head the Committee For High Court Benches establishment, secretaries of Home, Finance, Revenue & Disaster Management, and Law departments are the members of the panel. Special Secretary to government in charge of Home (High Court) Department is the Member Convener of the committee, the notification said.
Earlier the state government had constituted a panel under the chairmanship of the then Home Secretary Asit Tripathy in March, 2019..
