Electronic vital registration system replaces manual method of registration in Nigeria

National population Commission's Chairman said that the commission has now shifted from manual method of registration to an automation of registration and data storage process system.
Eze Duruiheoma, the commissioner revealed this during the commemoration of Africa Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Day on Friday.
The step towards automation will help in promotion and complete universal coverage of all.
The theme of the event was: "Promoting Innovative Universal Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System for good Governance and Better Lives."
Nigeria began with civil registration in the year 1963. Under the ordinance, birth, deaths marriages registration were provided. The step was taken to be in sync with the best practices being followed at the global level.
The commission expressed gratitude to the development partners, including UNFPA, UNICEF, World Bank, Global Fund and IOM and Plan International of Canada for technical support.
Mohammed Fall, the Country Representative of UNICEF urged that no child should be left behind in registration as it is the basic right.
