ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru (also called Joseph Mucheru) has ordered Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) on Thursday, November 29 to probe adult sites on Kenyan internet sphere. He wants the authority to absolutely filter the pornographic sites to help protect children.

Kenya's Information Communication and Technology Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru said that the augmented access to the adult or porn sites by young people has largely contributed to early pregnancies. While addressing the press at the CIO 100 Symposium at Naivasha on Thursday, he said that this move would help the state deal with the rising case of teenage pregnancies that ruined the recently concluded Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Joe Mucheru also extoled KCSE's boss George Magoha's demand that all the porn sites should be blocked in Kenya. George Magoha also said that the ICT sector is partly to blame for the increased ease of access of pornographic sites in Kenya. According to him, the pregnancy crisis observed in the country is due to the fact that some of the young girls access those adult sites.

"Our children are our future. Let's close the sites first, then have a debate on when to open them," Mucheru said.

While calling for the reintroduction of sex education in schools, Magoha also accused some authorities of encouraging the behaviour terming it as a process of multiplying to fill the earth. More than 14,000 teenagers were reported pregnant in the current year in Kenya' Kilifi County alone with the original figure estimated to be higher as some went unreported.
