Angolan government denied having taken any accountability for sending electric generators to São Tomé and Príncipe to cater for the local demand in the energy supply.

Ministry of Energy and Water sent the information to the news agency in reaction to reports circulating on social media alleging that Angola could send the equipment to the island.

The incumbent minister, João Baptista Borges, who considered the allegations groundless, said that the Government of Angola has never taken any accountability of the kind.

“It never procured new generator sets or sent power generators to the island,” he said.

Under the excellent relationship between the two sister countries, clarifies the document, the new Government of São Tomé requested the Angolan counterpart, through Ministry of Energy and Water, to provide emergency technical assistance to recover the damaged power generators and replacement of production capacity.

To answer favorably to the request, a team of technicians of PRODEL, a company attached to Ministry of Energy, was recently present in São Tomé. As a result of the diagnosis made, a report was produced and submitted to the authorities of that country, the note added. As result, the technicians pointed to the adoption of measures and solutions to the case.

Meanwhile, any decision to be made will occur under the strict respect for relations and bonds of friendship, cooperation interest and the sovereign will of both countries, the document concluded.
