First Lady of Zambia, Esther Lungu has condemned the behavior of several parents and women of dumping and abandoning babies. She said that no woman should be permitted in doing such unethical thing even in difficult situations.
The First Lady recently visited Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital in Zambia's capital city Lusaka on the eve of Christmas. She adopted a one-month old baby who was abandoned by her mother after delivery at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.
The mother of the abandoned newborn girl fled five days ago leaving her premature baby at the hospital. The hospital staffs were unable to locate the whereabouts of the runaway mother and her mobile contacts are all unreachable. The baby is currently in the care of the hospital at the University Teaching Hospital.
Esther Lungu visited the children's wards to give gifts to the Christmas babies at the hospital when she came in contact with the abandoned baby girl. When she was informed about the typical circumstance, she instantly declared that she would adopt the child with an assurance to make her grow up.
On the other hand, she further encouraged 15-year-old mother, who has also given birth recently, to return to school once the baby grows up. Another juvenile mother, who dropped out of school in class VIII, also agreed to return to school. She (the young mother) also regretted for getting pregnant at a tender age and vowed not to enter into marital life but continue with her education once the baby is weaned off.
My dear wife and First Lady Mrs. Esther Lungu took time to visit the Siamese twins, Bupe and Mapalo who were recently separated after a seven-hour successful operation led by a multi-discipline set of doctors and support team at the University Teaching Hospital #UTH. pic.twitter.com/gitk8rggem
