Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu donates K250,000 to churches to lift people’s livelihood

President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu has donated K250,000 to ten churches in Chifubu constituency in Ndola. Each church will reportedly get an amount of K25,000.

President Edgar Lungu opined that he has extended his empowerment programmes to the church since it houses vulnerable but resourceful with various skills which can contribute to national development if fully supported. While handing over the first payment of K100,000 to four churches. The aim is to combat poverty and improve people’s livelihoods.

“By venturing into different empowerment projects such as brick making, livestock development and others, the church can greatly supplement on government’s efforts of reducing poverty in communities,” Edgar Lungu said.

He further said he remains impartial with regards to empowering the vulnerable especially those in churches, knowing fully well its congregants have different ideologies belonging to different political parties, as reported by Lusaka Times. According to him, the church should continue preaching peace, love and reconciliation among its members as it is the only way the country will continue recording meaningful development.

So far, four churches that received the funds include the United Church of Zambia, Reformed Church in Zambia, Hope of Glory and Church of God World Mission.
