The Electricity Company of Ghana has decided to introduce smart prepayment metering system to replace the existing post-paid metering system in communities within the Tarkwa-Bogoso area of the Western Region.
As part of the preparations towards the rollout of the programme, all the major stakeholders including the Chiefs, Opinion leaders, and Security Agencies will be briefed on the exercise. Top officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana believe that this system will enhance revenue for the company including providing an effective tool for the company and also the users to manage the existing customers' debts.
Introduction of the smart prepaid metering system in the area is a remarkable success in the effort of accumulating more revenues for the company. Hence, according to Abraham Anokye Abebreseh, the general manager for the region (of Electricity Company of Ghana) said that the step has been taken in the right direction.
"The prepaid metering system encourages and support consumers to be more receptive to energy conservation practices which it eventually leads to savings in revenue for a happier customer. It then becomes a win-win situation for both the Electricity Company of Ghana and its customers," he added.
