Pilau

Ugali

Ugali is a very popular dish in Kenya's Luhya culture. It is considered a key part of Luhya wedding traditions. This cuisine is a staple starch cornmeal made with maize flour. This food is usually served as a white stiff porridge, which can be used to dip in stews or make into a makeshift spoon when you eat by using your hands. Usually, plain boiled rice is preferred with this food. Even if you can order special rice added with saffron, nuts, turmeric and dried fruits.

Matoke

Matoke is considered a popular native cuisine in the western part of Kenya. It is one of the staple dishes in Kenya. It is known as a variety of green bananas as it is prepared with banana that is cooked and mashed into a meal. Other ingredients like tomatoes, onion, garlic and meat are also used to prepare Matoke. Served with flavoured sauce makes Matoke more delicious. Kenyans prefer eating Matoke with Ugali, the combination makes it another delicious food in Kenya.

Irio

As one of the most popular foods in Kenya, Irio is native to a tribe in central Kenya named Kikuyu. Irio is prepared with green peas and mashed potatoes. Corn is also added in this dish to give the mixture some starch and texture. Many Kenyans prefer eating Irio with meat stew. You must take this delicious dish whenever you visit Kenya.

Mutura

Mutura is a type of Kenyan sausage. Its main ingredients are goat meat and clotted goat blood. This meaty snack is quite rich in protein and many Kenyan love taking it with beer. The intestines of goat are filled with the enticing mixture of meat and clotted blood, which is boiled for a few hours. This is considered one of the top delicious foods in Kenya.

Maharagwe

Maharagwe is really a delicious food that is prepared with Kenyan red beans, coconut milk and cardamom. This food is quite popular in southern Kenya due to the abundant growth of coconut in the region. Some people also love cooking red beans with chicken seasoning instead of coconut milk.
