Ghana is going to host a job fair in its capital, Accra in association with Germany this month. Around 2,000 job seekers and employers are expected to be present at the fair.

The job fair is aimed at complementing the Ghanaian government’s strategies targeted at creating jobs and reducing employment by bringing unemployed youth and employers together. Titled as ‘Ghana Job Fair’, the event is slated to take place at the Fantasy Dome of the Trade Fair Centre in Accra on May 23. Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration is going to organize the fair in association with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.

Benjamin Woesten, the Regional Advisor of the Global Programme Migration for Development opined at the media launch of the Ghana Job Fair that unemployment was high, particularly among the young people, with an alarming rate for university graduates in Ghana. The development has resulted in many of the youth leaving the country on the basis of going to look for greener pasture elsewhere, with some using dangerous routes to get to Europe, as reported by Graphic Online.

“Many take the decision to leave their country on the basis of false information, false hopes and promises, knowing nothing of either the risks and dangers of the flight or the lack of prospects in the target country,” he added.

According to him, there are several opportunities in Ghana that are yet to be tapped, hence there is a requirement to enlighten the youth to take advantage of such existing opportunities.
