The World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 was launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to focus on the world extent of child-centric labour. The Day is widely supported by governments, employers' and workers' organizations, UN agencies, and many others who are concerned with tackling child labour.

More than 152 million children across the world are still victims of child labour, according to ILO. Although child labour occurs in almost all sectors, 7 out of every 10 of these children are working in agriculture.

Sustainable Development Goal Target 8.7 by the United Nations and the international community calls for an end to child labour in all its forms by 2025.

The day is also widely supported by the Indian community, with a large number of events organized all over the country. But despite efforts and awareness campaigns spread across the country, India is struggling to end child labour.

How to report a Child Labour case in India:

  • 1098 - 24-hour toll-free Childline

Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India and the Ministry has a separate bureau for dealing with issues related to children. There is a dedicated helpline to report on if you spot a child working in hazardous conditions. If you wish to report a case of child labour, you can call Childline on 1098, a toll-free 24-hour service across India.

The child will be rescued and put up in shelter homes or other alternative arrangements, depending upon the situation. If the children have families and are lost, they are rehabilitated.

The 24x7 helpline can also be used to report child abuse and is mostly very prompt without any waiting time.

  • You can also file a case through this link, https://pencil.gov.in/Complaints/add. This website is solely created for cases of Child Labour and is supported by the Government of India.
